A 17-year-old driver was killed early Tuesday morning after authorities said the car hit an overpass pole and caught fire.
Oak Brook Police and Oak Brook Fire departments were called to a scene of a car in flames on southbound Illinois Route 83 near 31st Street at about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday.
According to preliminary investigation, the car was traveling south on Route 83 when it veered off the roadway to the right side of the road and crashed into the overpass at 31st Street. The car continued traveling until stopping on the Southbound lanes of Route 83 with severe damage to the front.
Police said the car appeared to be a black or gray Honda Accord.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the teenage driver. The crash is under investigation by the Major Crash Reconstruction Team, police said.
