Naperville police charged an Aurora man with auto theft after he was discovered inside a car reported as stolen, police said.
Abdulhafedh H. Abdulhafedh, 20, of the 1000 block of Pheasant Run Lane, was taken into custody Monday while parked outside a business in the 1900 block of Brookdale Road, a news release said. A second person in the vehicle fled on foot and is being sought.
Police said an officer learned the car had been stolen after doing a random registration check. While searching the car, police found an illegal handgun, the release said.
The second suspect being sought is described as a black male in his early 20s with an athletic build. He was wearing light-colored jeans and a black T-shirt, the release said.
Abdulhafedh was charged with possession of stolen motor vehicle and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies. He’s being held in the DuPage County jail pending a bond hearing.
Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to call 630-420-6666 and ask for the Investigations Division.
