A 43-year-old Lockport man has been charged with murder in connection with the Tuesday shooting of another resident.

Alvin Green appeared in Will County bond court Friday morning and remains in custody on $3 million bond for the shooting death of 39-year-old Patrick Taylor, officials said. An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 30.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Oak Avenue, west of Brassel Street, in Lockport Township about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday for the shooting. When deputies arrived, they began life saving measures on Taylor, who had been shot multiple times. Taylor was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a sheriff’s news release.

Several witnesses reported Taylor was walking when someone driving in a red van shot and killed him, according to the sheriff’s office. Witnesses also told police Taylor and Green, who was later identified as the subject driving the red van, had been in argument, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies found Green at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday not far from the scene in a different vehicle. Green was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant but refused to make any statements to investigators, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators also located the red conversion van at 2 a.m. Wednesday on Florence Avenue in Joliet. The vehicle was removed and processed for evidence. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said the weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered.

Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley said the public’s assistance played an important role.

“Without citizens coming forward in this case and providing detectives with critical information, this case would have been far more difficult to solve,” Kelley said in a statement.
