Sunday morning around 7:30 a.m., four residents near the area of 64 Norfolk, Clarendon Hills, witnessed two individuals in ski masks attempting to break inside a Red Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that was parked at Notre Dame Church.

“Those are the ones that they’re going for right now,” said Clarendon Hills Police officer Madeline Spelnan. “I’m sure CPD has some reports out too, but as far as vehicular hijackings go, that’s the car being targeted most . . . including dealership break-ins.”

Law enforcement officials think it’s because of the engine power of the SRT Hellcat, which makes for a quicker getaway, Spelnan said.

One of the vehicles at the scene of the attempted burglary was a blue Audi, which was reported stolen from an unincorporated area in Lisle.

The vehicle that the suspects arrived in was a dark colored Jeep Cherokee, which was also reported stolen.

As the witnesses spotted the incident, the two vehicles fled the scene.

“There was no interaction or confrontation, they just saw these vehicles pull up and a person get out of the passenger side of the dark jeep and break the driver side of the Red Dodge Challenger,” Spelnan added.

The suspects broke into the car, but didn’t take anything from it.

Witnesses described the person who drove away in the blue Audi as a white female with blonde hair.
