Chicago police Thursday announced an arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a man earlier this month.
A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with an Aug. 6 shooting on the West Side that killed 38-year-old Angel Figueroa, police said.
Justin Cortes, 25, of the 600 block of North Kedzie Avenue, is accused of fatally shooting Figueroa as Cortes rode in a passing vehicle in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Cortes was charged with first-degree murder and had a bond court hearing scheduled for later in the day.
Figueroa, of the 4300 block of West Thomas Street, had been sitting in the front seat of another vehicle when Cortes allegedly began firing at him around 9 p.m.
The driver of Figueroa’s vehicle took him to Humboldt Park Health Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The shooting happened in the 3400 block of West Division Street, while Figueroa’s vehicle was headed west.
Cortes was arrested Aug. 18 in the 5000 block of West Wabansia Avenue.
