Orland Park Library home to Little Free Pantry thanks to Scouts
Girl Scouts from Troop 60049 created a Little Free Pantry in front of Orland Park Public Library, 14921 S. Ravinia Ave.
Library Director Mary Adamowski said the Scouts had been raising money to build a Little Free Pantry.
“All they needed was a place to put the pantry in the community,” she said.
The library and the Girl Scouts’ goals were aligned. The library reached out to Troop 60049 earlier in the year about potentially providing the location for the Little Free Pantry.
The Scouts built and painted the pantry, which is now open to those who need it, and to those who would like to add a can of food to it.

Big Shoulders Fund, an independent charitable organization that serves 72 Catholic schools in Chicago, had its second highest grossing fundraiser of all time earlier this month, raising $650,000 for scholarships at the 21st annual Golf Classic at Olympia Fields Country Club.
“Our community of supporters has never lost sight of the importance of providing a quality education to the students we serve, even amidst the significant challenges of the last 18 months,” said Josh Hale, president and CEO of Big Shoulders Fund. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone that came together today to make this event a success, and for the ongoing hard work and generous contributions of our committed philanthropic community that allow us to continue fulfilling our mission to provide any child in need with the tools and support they need to achieve their dreams.”
The event is Big Shoulders Fund’s largest annual fundraiser.
Event to shine light on signs of drug abuse

The Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization and Will County sheriff’s police will open two “Hidden in Plain Sight” trailers modeled on a teen’s bedroom to show what current drug paraphernalia looks like at a Your Light Still Shines event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 Gougar Road, New Lenox.
The trailers are set up as teenagers’ bedrooms to educate parents about potentially dangerous items that are often “hidden in plain sight, organizers said. Teens engaging in substance use and other risky behaviors (sexual, suicidal) often find clever ways to hide what they’re doing, they said.
