A 55-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon during an encounter with Chicago police officers detailed to a fugitive task force at a Calumet City restaurant, according to authorities.
Chicago and Calumet City police officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force — a group that works to locate people who are wanted by law enforcement — tried to stop Losardo Lucas, of Calumet City, at Roc & Ro BBQ, a restaurant at 1655 S. Sibley Blvd., around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to preliminary information from Illinois State Police.
Lucas, who authorities say had multiple warrants for his arrest, was armed with a pistol and pointed the gun at the officers, according to a statement from state police. The officers then fired at Lucas, striking and killing him, state police said. Lucas was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:19 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An officer also was taken to a hospital as a “precautionary measure,” according to the state police statement.
Lucas’ pistol was recovered at the scene, along with a second firearm and additional rounds of ammunition, officials said.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said in a social media post at least one officer involved in the shooting was assigned to the Chicago Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. A spokeswoman with Chicago police referred inquiries to state police but in a brief statement said: “Chicago police officers … were involved in (the) shooting.”

Illinois State Police is leading the investigation into the shooting, and the COPA post said the agency — responsible for investigating police officers’ use of force — will conduct a separate, administrative investigation.
