Two young girls, ages 8 and 9, were shot Thursday in separate incidents, police said.

The 9-year-old was seated in the back seat of a vehicle at the intersection of 79th Street and Maryland Avenue when the shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m., police said.

The vehicle was stopped at a stop sign when someone got out of a white truck and opened fire, striking the girl in the back of the head, according to police.

A Gresham District tactical officer drove the girl to the University of Chicago Medical Center before she was transferred to its children’s hospital, Comer, in critical condition, police said.

A man, 52, was also shot in the foot and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was reported in good condition. Police earlier said the man was 61.

The 8-year-old girl was shot in the arm as she sat inside a Roseland home on the Far South Side early Thursday in a shooting that also left a woman dead. Earlier, two 15-year-olds were among four teens shot in a Little Village attack, according to Chicago police.
