As the number of residents who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine continues to increase, the village of Oak Park reported no new cases of the virus for the first time in recent memory.
Between June 16-23, the village of Oak Park reported no resident cases of the virus were recorded. Since the village’s first positive case was reported on March 18, 2020, there have been at least 3,208 Oak Park residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Also on Wednesday, the village’s health department reported nearly 29,600 residents have received at least one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
The number includes more than 28,000 residents who are fully vaccinated, which represents 54% of the village’s total population. Officials say 65% of Oak Park residents who are 12 years old and older have been fully vaccinated.
Any resident needing help in getting vaccinated is asked to contact the Oak Park Department of Public Health at [email protected] for assistance. More information about the village’s vaccination efforts is available at www.oak-park.us/vaccine.
Oak Park residents 18 years old and older who are vaccinated are also eligible to win cash prizes or scholarships through a state-sponsored lottery. The state announced three $1 million cash prizes and 40 $100,000 cash prizes will be awarded to vaccinated residents this summer.
In addition, the state announced 20 vaccinated children ages 12 to 17 will be entered into a lottery for a Bright Start college savings plan worth $150,000. The first drawing will be July 8 and winners will be drawn from state vaccination records through August.
