Chicago Alfresco, the city’s new initiative for outdoor dining, stretches from Rogers Park to South Chicago, carving out space on streets and sidewalks for dining, cultural events and performances.

The program this year grows from a successful effort in summer 2020 when the pandemic meant no dining inside restaurants. Some of the locations are complete blocks closed to vehicle traffic, others are mini parks taking up a few parking spots on the side of a street, and others are taking over underutilized public spaces.

Activities such as movie nights, storytelling and street vending are planned at various locations. The city is accepting applications for more locations (More information is available here.)
