Crate & Barrel CEO Janet Hayes and her husband, William Daniel, have paid $2.95 million for a newly built, six-bedroom mansion in Glencoe.

Hayes joined Crate & Barrel as CEO in August after serving as president of the Williams-Sonoma brand and overseeing Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen. Hayes and her husband bought the Glencoe mansion in June, but the deal wasn’t recorded until September. They bought the home through an opaque land trust that obscured their identities.

Constructed by Vu Trieu’s Northfield-based NorthShore Development Group, the brick-and-limestone mansion has 71/2 bathrooms, an elevator and a lower level that has a large rec room, a full wet bar, walnut cabinetry, a glass-enclosed wine area, a media room and an exercise room.

Other features in the 8,790-square-foot home include a family room with custom built-ins and a stone fireplace, a living room with a coffered ceiling, a mud room with a doggy shower and a kitchen with custom walnut cabinetry and quartzite countertops.

The mansion’s primary bedroom suite has a sitting area, a spa bathroom with heated floors, a steam shower and what listing information terms a Kardashian walk-in closet — undoubtedly referring to the kinds of wide, well-lit closets with custom shelving in which Kim Kardashian is often photographed in her Instagram posts.

The mansion sits on a 0.53-acre lot, which is unusually large for Glencoe.

“It’s on one of the most popular streets in Glencoe, and the home had a really beautiful backyard, set high up,” said listing agent Susan Maman of @properties, who represented the seller. “And it had an elevator, which is another great thing, and then they were able to have five bedrooms on the second floor, with all bedrooms really generously sized.”

Gary Slattery of Baird & Warner, who represented Hayes and her husband, declined to comment on the transaction.

The mansion first was listed in November 2019 for $3.39 million. Its asking price was reduced to $3.29 million in March 2020.
