Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Chicago Blackhawks received some reinforcements Tuesday with the return of forward Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Nicolas Beaudin from the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol.

“Neither tested positive,” coach Jeremy Colliton said. “But it’s nice to get a little depth back, and we’ll see how it plays out as far as when we can get them in.”

DeBrincat and Beaudin participated in Tuesday’s morning skate at the United Center, and both were in the lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. DeBrincat was on a line with Dylan Strome and Dominik Kubalik, while Beaudin was paired with Nikita Zadorov.

DeBrincat was placed on the unavailable list Jan. 25 with defenseman Adam Boqvist, while Beaudin was designated unavailable Friday with forward Ryan Carpenter.

Forward Lucas Wallmark also is in the protocol.

NHL players can’t practice, play or travel with the team until they are removed from the list.

Players can be placed in the protocol for a variety of reason — it doesn’t necessarily require a confirmed positive test — including an initial, unconfirmed positive or a high-risk close contact.

DeBrincat brings back another weapon in the Hawks’ fifth-ranked power play. Beaudin adds to the depth on defense.

“It’s great to see those guys,” Matthew Highmore said. “It’s been a little bit. We’re excited to have them back.”
