A 41-year-old woman is accused of driving while intoxicated when she fatally hit a woman in the Logan Square neighborhood Tuesday.
Jennifer Martinez was charged with three counts of driving under the influence, including aggravated DUI, Chicago police said. Martinez, who was arrested shortly after the collision, was also charged with driving an uninsured vehicle.
Patsy Ely was walking in the 3900 block of West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square about 4:50 p.m. when she was hit by a white Dodge Caravan being driven by Martinez, according to police.
Ely was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:49 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A police spokeswoman said the report did not make clear whether Ely had been crossing the street or standing on a sidewalk near the crosswalk.
Martinez , of the 4100 block of North Lawndale Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood, was scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday in bond court on the charges.
