A man slugged a Chicago police officer in the face while being led off a CTA train in the Loop Wednesday evening because he was drinking, authorities said.

The man, 55, and the officer were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were listed in good condition, according to Chicago Fire Chief Frank Velez.

Officers spotted the man drinking on a Red Line train at the Jackson Park station around 5:45 p.m., police said.

As the officers began leading him off the train and writing him up for a city violation, the man became angry and punched one of the officers, said Anthony Spicuzza, a police spokesman.

Charges were pending against the man.
