From 65 to 70 vehicles filled with Western Springs families drove through Spring Rock Park Saturday in a coronavirus-compliant Halloween Bash.
When the governor put stricter limits on gatherings last week, the Western Springs Park District converted its Halloween party to a mostly drive-through event.
Between 10 a.m. and noon, Oct. 31, people who had registered for a 20-minute timeframe, drove through an inflatable archway in the park, at 4400 Central Ave., said Barb Kartzmark, manager of community relations and events.
“We had a nice steady flow,” she said.

The weather was mild and sunny, but a bit windy, especially for the inflated tube guys whose long arms waved frantically in the wind.
Kartzmark, dressed as the Where’s Waldo character, and other park employees greeted the families in their cars and handed them a goody bag of candy and toys, such as a bubble wand.

People could get out of their car to take a photo, which they could enter in a costume contest. Children dressed in a broad range of costumes, including superheroes, princesses, police officers, firefighters, pumpkins, strawberries and other fruits. Kartzmark said the winners of the 37 entries will be announced Monday on the park district’s website and Facebook page.
