
More than 350 people in Kane County tested positive for COVID-19 between Aug. 24 and 31, pushing the county’s total past 11,000, data shows.
However, the 357 weekly count is 133 cases fewer than this time a week ago, when 490 cases were reported for Aug. 17-24.
Kane County now has 11,240 confirmed cases and 312 deaths since March, including three deaths that occurred in the past week, county Coroner Rob Russell’s weekly report said.
The most recent victims are a 68-year-old Elgin woman who died Friday and an 86-year-old Elgin woman and 87-year-old Aurora man who died Saturday.
Aurora continues to report the highest number of confirmed cases in the county at 4,255, followed by Elgin with 2,535.
If reviewed by Zip codes, the highest in Kane is 60505, which encompasses Aurora’s east side and has had 2,455 cases total since March, according to Illinois Department of Public Health records.
Elgin’s 60120 Zip code on the city’s east side is the next highest with 1,737 cases, state data shows.

As of Monday, Aurora’s total case count is 4,985 when numbers from the city areas in Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Will areas are included. Elgin’s case total when Kane and Cook county numbers are combined is 3,339, data shows.
Other smaller Kane communities have reported lower total case numbers. Carpentersville had 1,068 positive cases as of Monday; St. Charles, 827; South Elgin, 523; Geneva, 361; North Aurora, 302; Batavia, 291; Montgomery, 172; Sugar Grove, 105; West Dundee, 80; and East Dundee, 39.
Kane has stayed off the list of counties at the “warning level,” which on Friday had reached 30, including nearby Will and suburban Cook.
Kane County’s 108 new cases per 100,000 people mark is again above the target level of 50 per 100,000, records show. Nearly 7% of COVID-19 tests in Kane came back positive for the reporting week.
