Fuller House in downtown Hinsdale plans to reopen at 4 p.m. Thursday after being closed for five days for sanitizing and coronavirus testing.
Sam and Patricia Vlahos own both Fuller House and Pierce Tavern in Downers Grove.
On Saturday, they announced via social media that an employee at Pierce Tavern had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Both restaurants closed for a thorough cleaning and disinfecting.
The restaurants’ employees had been following the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for restaurants, the owners said, but they decided temporarily shutting the businesses was the right thing to do.
On Tuesday, any employees who may have had direct contact with the infected person at Pierce were privately tested, the owners said. They did not go back in the restaurants until the test results were known.
Pierce Tavern reopened Wednesday and Fuller House is scheduled to reopen for dinner Thursday, employees said.
“We will continue following all our sanitizing processes, mask wearing and temperature taking every shift once we’re open,” restaurant officials said in a Facebook post.
“Shutting down was a massive financial loss of revenue, as well as loss of compensation to our staff,” the owners stated. “Know we have been practicing all guidelines that the CDC has laid out to ensure safety, as well as taking extra precautionary measures.”
The owners said they were grateful for their customers’ kind comments during the shutdown.
“We are so glad we are in a community that is so supportive and are so fortunate to have felt such love and compassion,” they said.
Fuller House also closed early Aug. 10, when it lost electricity during a bad storm that moved through the area.
