Fascist Frank’s Italian Beef Emporium is welcoming federal agents to Chicago with a “keeper of the peace” lunch combo — a medium Italian beef, fries and a 32-ounce canister of tear gas for $5.99.
“Just like you, the source of our Italian beef is unknown, unregulated and questionably legal. It’s the perfect way to wind down after a long day of curb stomping skulls and denying people their constitutional rights,” “Fascist Frank” (played by Second City alum Brian Stack) said in the 80-second sketch that opened Tuesday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The Italian beef emporium — “where our beef is the Musso-leanest in town” — looks suspiciously like Pottillo’s, the “Late Show” restaurant that offered various January specials when legal weed sales began in Illinois.
Colbert, a Northwestern University graduate and Second City alum who lived in Chicago for 11 years, often mentions the city on his CBS network show. “The Late Show” airs at 10:35 p.m. weeknights on WBBM-Ch. 2.
