Overnight closures are scheduled to begin July 17 on St. Charles Road, as well as on the ramps connecting westbound I-290 to St. Charles Road, adjacent to the Interstate I-294, according to information from the Illinois Tollway.
Nightly ramp and local road closures are necessary to provide a work zone to safely accommodate work related to the relocation of Com Ed transmission lines in the area.
Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to the overnight closures and detours. All work is weather dependent.
Up-to-date information regarding lane closures will be available in the Illinois Tollway’s Daily Construction Alerts.
“The Illinois Tollway promotes safety of both drivers and workers as we schedule and implement roadway improvements,” Illinois Tollway Executive Director José Alvarez said in a statement. “We work to limit lane closures to temporary overnight and weekend hours to minimize the impact of construction on daily commuters.”
Beginning at 8 p.m. July 17, the ramp with westbound I-290 traffic to eastbound St. Charles Road is scheduled to close with a posted detour routing I-290 traffic to the exit for westbound St. Charles Road and then through the interchange ramps in order to continue east on St. Charles Road.
