
A man has been charged in the beating death of a 2-year-old boy this week in the Bronzeville neighborhood, according to police.
Michael Robinson, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the Tuesday beating of Antwun Gayde, according to authorities.
Robinson hit the boy in the head in the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. The boy was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon after being taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, according to authorities..

The death happened at the man’s address in the Bronzeville neighborhood, police said. He was arrested at the scene Tuesday afternoon. Police previously said Robinson has mental illness, and that he hit the child in the face multiple times with his fists.
The medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide. An autopsy showed the boy died of multiple injuries from child abuse.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating, chief of staff Jassen Strokosch said. He added that DCFS had no prior contact with the family.
Chicago police released no further information Thursday morning.
Robinson was scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court Friday.
