95th Street Farmers Market opens season Thursday

The 95th Street Farmers Market in Naperville is set to open for its third season Thursday, June 4.

The summer market operates from 3 to 7 p.m. every Thursday in the parking lot of the 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive. The Naperville Park District and the 95th Street Library jointly sponsor the event.

This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the market will employ safety precautions, including mandatory use of face coverings and social distancing, a park district news release said. All of the guidelines can be viewed online at www.napervilleparks.org/farmersmarket.

Some vendors are taking advance orders through their websites or Facebook pages to help customers who want to expedite their visit, the release said.

Among the items being sold are locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, organic meat, eggs, dipping oils, nuts and dip mixes. Other items include flowers, plants, candles, jewelry, pillows and hats, the release said.

Naper Settlement reopens Tuesday, but with restrictions

Naper Settlement was to reopen to the public on Tuesday, June 2, but with limited capacity and strict social distancing and safety requirements in place for staff, volunteers, and visitors, the Naperville museum announced.

All visitors will be required to wear face masks inside all buildings and when social distancing cannot be maintained outdoors, a news release said. Visitors must stand 6 feet away from others unless the group has been social distancing together.

On Thursday, June 4, the museum will offer several new tour options that promote social distancing on the 13-acre campus, including guided tours of the grounds and select buildings with no more than eight people in a group, the release said. Self-guided tours are also available using the museum’s mobile tour app.

Areas with a high potential for physical interaction, including the Rita (Fredenhagen) and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape, will remain closed until a later date, the release said.

Two minors charged for car break-in on Aurora Avenue

Two teens were arrested May 29 in connection with a car burglary that occurred in the 500 block of Aurora Avenue, Naperville police said.

The youths, 15 and 16 years old, were taken into custody about 4:30 a.m. and charged with felony burglary to motor vehicle for allegedly going into an unlocked car, a news release said.

Police are investigating whether the teens might be responsible for other burglaries in the city, the release said.

Pet waste bags, trash cans being funded with $5,000 grant

Conservation Foundation in Naperville will receive a $5,000 grant from Illinois American Water to work with the DuPage and Will County forest preserves, local communities and park districts on strategically placing signs, pet waste bags and trash cans.

The environmental grant recipients are sharing $25,672 in funds for community projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds, Illinois American President Justin Ladner said in a release.

The forest preserve and park projects will help prevent waste from going into local water ways and pet owners and park patrons will benefit from the project, the release said.

The Forest Preserve District of Will County, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Lower DuPage River Watershed Coalition, and Lower Des Plaines Watershed Group are project partners, the release said.
