Oswego is offering a daily check-in program for the duration of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s stay-at-home order as a way to provide some comfort to seniors and those with medical concerns during these trying times of the global coronavirus pandemic.
The stay-at-home order is effective through April 7.
The Oswego Police Department in a post on Facebook announced Saturday that anyone who lives alone or has a medical concern can enroll in the “I Live Alone” program to receive a daily telephone call with a “friendly check-in” as people are required to stay in their homes to prevent the further spread of coronavirus infection.
If a call goes unanswered and there are no instructions that the resident is away, an Oswego police officer will be sent to check on the resident. The daily check-in program is intended to provide seniors and their families some comfort during this unusual time.
Gov. Pritzker’s order prohibits people from visiting the homes of friends, hosting gatherings of any size and closes all nonessential establishments, including most retail, restaurants and bars, recreation and entertainment businesses. The stay-at-home order does not prohibit essential activities like grocery shopping, visiting a pharmacy, receiving medical care, or taking your pet for a walk.
Oswego’s daily check-in program is free to residents. Call the Oswego Police Department at 630-551-7300 to sign up.
