According to unofficial final results, Kendall County Board incumbent Tony Giles did not win his bid for a second term Tuesday in the Republican primary in District 2, which leaves three other candidates a chance for a seat on the board.

Five Republicans were seeking the nomination for three seats on the Kendall County Board in District 2.

Matthew Kellogg was the top vote-getter with 23.80% of the votes, followed by Dan Koukol with 23.01% and Joe West with 19.68% of the votes, and then Giles with 18.2% of the votes and Gabriella Shanahan with 15.39% of the votes, according to unofficial final results.

Koukol served six years on the board from 2010 to 2016. He did not win re-election in 2016. He campaigned for a seat in District 2 in 2018.

“People know that I won’t vote to increases taxes,” he said.

West, a U.S. Marine veteran, served a four-year term as trustee on the Oswego Village Board. He campaigned for village president in Oswego last year. He would be an advocate for veterans, he said.

“I am a big supporter of our seniors and veterans groups and a supporter of Kendall County and Oswego,” he said.

Kellogg grew up on his family’s 1846 farmstead in an unincorporated area near Yorkville. He would be a voice for those who still live and operate farms, he said.

Three Democrats received their party’s nomination in an uncontested race in Tuesday’s primary election in District 2. They are incumbent Elizabeth Flowers, Mary Murray and Karen Novy.

The three Republican winners and the three Democrats will square off for three seats on the Kendall County Board in District 2 in the November election.
