A Southland baby born Saturday was among the first area newborns who will technically celebrate their birthday once every four years.
Leap Day on Feb. 29 is the extra day added to the calendar every four years as a corrective measure to the time it takes the Earth to revolve around the sun.
Baby Moises Alberto was among the first “leaplings” born in the area at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
He was born at 5:04 a.m., weighing 10 pounds and measuring 22 inches.
Moises’ parents are Maria and Jose Jimenez from Whiting, Indiana. He has three siblings.
The first baby recorded born in the Chicago area by Advocate hospitals was Kyree to parents Alexis Hurt and Semaj Collier of Elgin.
Kryee was born at 12:06 a.m. weighing 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measuring 14.5 inches.
Baby Sophia was born next at 12:31 a.m. to parents Deyse and Luis Galvan of Elgin at Sherman Hospital.
She was followed by baby Nel at 1:39 a.m. to parents Karolina and Adam Mroczko of Park Ridge. After Moises arrived, baby Brooks born to Michell and Taylor Kraemer of Chicago at 8:27 a.m.
