Following a “long-term” investigation, Marcus A. Hudson, 24, of Round Lake Beach, was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon with no FOID card and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon with no conceal carry license, according to Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.
Covelli said that the investigation concluded Hudson is a convicted felon and “documented street gang member” who was illegally selling firearms.
Detectives witnessed him selling a semi-automatic pistol, which was later determined to have been stolen in an Ingleside burglary, Covelli said. Before that, Hudson allegedly sold a firearm which had been stolen during a burglary in the city of McHenry.
“Firearms in the wrong hands often ends in tragedies.” Sheriff John Idleburg said in a release Wednesday. “I am very proud of the investigative work and collaboration between our Special Investigations Group, ATF, and the other law-enforcement agencies involved in this investigation.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Chicago Field Division are members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group and had a significant role in the investigation, authorities said.
The McHenry Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Task Force and the Round Lake Beach Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
