Bail was set at $2 million Tuesday for a 31-year-old Hanover Park man who is charged with sex crimes against three young children, authorities said.
Juan Garrafa-Salazar is charged with three counts of indecent solicitation of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a child and grooming.
Garrafa-Salazar also was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and domestic battery in incidents related to his arrest over the weekend, according to Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Gates.
Gates said Garrafa-Salazar was with a woman babysitting three children earlier this month when the alleged crimes took place, Gates said. Two of the children were 8 and the other 9, Gates said.
Garrafa-Salazar allegedly showed them a video of a man and woman having sex, then made a suggestive comment and performed inappropriate acts, one that involved having physical contact with one of the girls, Gates said.
Police arrested Garrafa-Salazar after he fled during a domestic violence call at his residence Saturday, Gates said. He resisted when police tracked him, head-butting a police sergeant in the chest, Gates said.
Garrafa-Salazar told police he had consumed a liter of vodka and sniffed nail polish remover as a sex enhancement before the incident with the children, Gates said.
At Gates’ request, Judge Samuel Betar ordered Garrafa-Salazar to not have contact with people under 18 or the alleged victims, not to use the internet, and refrain from consuming alcohol and sniffing nail polish remover.
Garrafa-Salazar has prior convictions for aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon and five bond forfeitures, Gates said.
His next court date is Feb. 13 in Rolling Meadows branch court.
