Marie Louise White lives in Crystal Lake, but she’s originally from Leeds in England. She’s been living in the United States for three years, and for the last two of those years she’s worked at Colored Squid Gallery and Gift Shop in Barrington.
Q: What brought you over to the United States?
A: My husband’s job transferred him, and I just came along for the ride.
Q: Do you have a busiest time of year?
A: This is the busiest time of year, definitely. December is crazy. We’ve had a constant few weeks of people coming and going, and it’s always a mix of people. It’s kind of a destination where people know they can get local unique items here, and then other people come in to the flower shop who have maybe never known we were in this space.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: I like hiking with my husband. We do hiking in the spring in the autumn, and in the summertime we like to go kayaking on the lake. And in the winter we kind of just hibernate. We did say we were going to try to do some snowboarding and skiing this winter, so we’ll see.
Q: What’s your New Year’s resolution, if you have one?
A: I guess my New Year’s resolution is probably the same as it always is, just to try to keep in touch with people a little more, especially people at home. Obviously FaceTime is really good for that, but the time difference is not so good for that.
