An 18-year old Aurora man faces multiple felony charges in connection with a shooting earlier this month on Aurora’s Near East Side.
Pedro Luna, Jr., of the 500 block of Second Avenue has been charged with Class X aggravated discharge of a firearm, Class X armed violence, Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle and Class 4 felony reckless discharge of a firearm following an Aurora Police investigation into reports of shots fired Sept. 19 in the 300 block of Spencer Street, police announced Saturday in a press release.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the charges.
Luna was in the Kane County jail Saturday in lieu of $500,000 bail, jail officials said.
On Sept. 19, at approximately 5:50 p.m. Aurora officers were dispatched to the intersection of Fourth and Spencer streets for reports that a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole. The city’s emergency dispatch also received calls of shots fired in the area that were potentially related to the crash, the release said.
Witnesses reported that occupants of the vehicle had left the scene on foot.
According to the press release, officers canvassed the area in search of the occupants of the vehicle and spoke to multiple witnesses in the area at the time. Witnesses told officers that the crashed vehicle drove down the 300 block of Spencer Street, and shots were fired from inside the vehicle towards a group of people standing on the street.
Detectives in their investigation determined Luna and a juvenile were responsible for firing shots from inside the vehicle as it drove down the street. Luna was located by detectives the following day, the release said.
The juvenile and a second juvenile, who was driving the vehicle, were also charged in connection with the incident. Their cases are being handled in the Kane County Juvenile Court system.
