Walker School second-grader Ellie Patel didn’t hesitate to verify the accuracy when her mom, Lindsey, said gym day at the school Friday was her daughter’s favorite day of the year.
“It is my favorite day because mommy’s here,” Ellie said with a big grin on her face.
And Lindsey Patel was more than glad to be at the school to share a physical education class with her daughter.
“It’s a great idea,” she said. “It shows that kids can be active with their parents.”
Melissa Marshall, a physical education teacher, said this was the 15th annual gym day, which brings in available and interested parents to share some activities.
“The kids love showing their parents what they’ve learned and what they can do,” Marshall said. “And they also just love having their parents here with them in school.”

Marshall said gym day has a different theme each year, as chosen by students.
“This year’s theme is jungle with a bit of ‘Jumanji,’ the movie,” she said.

Parent Angela Ordway shared this year’s event with her sons, Charlie, a second-grader, and Jack, a third-grader.
“I love opportunities for parents to get involved,” she said.
Charlie agreed.
“It’s very fun to have a parent who can help you,” he said.
Parent Allan Ho, who was in the gym with his daughter, second-grader Audrey, said he enjoyed the event.
“It’s nice to come to school and see them in their environment,” he said.
