Goal of the Week: Nick Schmaltz
The Hawks only scored three goals in their two games so there wasn’t much to choose from but this was a pretty good one from Schmaltz, who said afterward he was copying Alex DeBrincat’s “toe drag” style and then getting a shot off quickly.
Save of the Week: Corey Crawford
Crawford had a strong game against the Flyers despite losing 4-0, this save on a Wayne Simmonds rebound attempt was just one that helped keep the game from getting out of hand.
Number of the Week: 27:43
Patrick Kane’s first game playing for Colliton resulted in him playing the second-most minutes of his career in a regulation game. The 27 minutes, 43 seconds that Kane played against the Hurricanes was only surpassed by the 28:48 he played against the Blue Jackets on Oct. 21, 2016.
Prospect of the Week: Nicolas Beaudin, Drummondville
The Hawks’ second first-round pick from last year’s draft had a momentous week. On Friday, he agreed to a three-year entry level deal with the Hawks and that night returned from a wrist injury that cost him nine games.
Beaudin scored a goal and an assist for Drummondville in its 8-1 victory and assisted on the Voltigeurs’ lone goal in a 5-1 loss the following day. He has 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) in 11 games.
Quote of the Week
“I wouldn’t label it as a rebuilding, I would reference it more as a remodeling. You still have Hall of Fame players, my expectations are that this is a playoff team.” — Hawks president John McDonough at the press conference introducing Colliton as head coach.
