The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Chicago area Monday, which is expected to be hot and humid, with temperatures in the low- to mid-90s and a heat index that may reach 105 degrees.
Beyond Chicago, the advisory includes Aurora, DeKalb, Dixon, Elgin, Oregon and Wheaton, and lasts from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
The pairing of heat and humidity can be hazardous, especially for older people or those who already have health problems, according to the weather service. The weather conditions forecast for Monday put people at risk for heat illnesses, and the weather service is cautioning people to stay out of the sun and hydrated, plan strenuous activities for the early morning or evening, and wear light, loose clothing.
Anyone experiencing heat stroke should call 911, and Chicago residents can call 311 to ask for well-being checks on elderly people or to learn about nearby cooling centers.
