Nine people, including three teenagers, were wounded Thursday afternoon through early Friday in shootings on the South and West sides, Chicago police said.

The most recent shooting, shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday, took place over about a half mile in McKinley Park on the South Side. An SUV or minivan with several people inside rolled up on a parked Chevrolet Trailblazer in the alley in the 3500 block of South Hoyne Avenue and at least one person inside started shooting, police said.

The Trailblazer drove to the 3200 block of South Hamilton Avenue, where the driver stopped to call police. The other car followed, and the shooter fired five more gunshots at the Trailblazer, police said. A 20-year-old man sitting in the back of the Trailblazer was hit in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

About two hours earlier in the Northwest side’s Albany Park neighborhood, a 19-year-old man was shot in the head about 11:15 p.m. while walking on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of North Albany Avenue. Someone got out of a dark SUV and fired, police said.

The 19-year-old was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Neighbors said they heard eight gunshots. At least that many shell casings were marked by scraps of paper in the northwest corner of the intersection of Albany and Argyle Street.

One man said he had been watching the news in his apartment on the south side of Argyle street, just east of Albany, when the shots rang out. His daughter said someone had been shot, and he rushed over to the street-facing window.

He couldn’t see the people screaming, but he heard them and knew she was right, he said. By the time he went outside, paramedics had taken over, but other neighbors said someone with the teen had started performing CPR, he said.

On the sidewalk outside the hospital, a small group waited for news. Two teens wearing visitor badges said they had been with their friend when he was shot, then called 911 and tried to revive him while they were waiting for help. However, they said his family didn’t want anyone to talk yet about the young man or what had happened.

Another 19-year-old man was shot in the back and leg about 8:10 p.m. in the Roseland neighborhood while he was was walking in the 11400 block of South Princeton Avenue. He was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Shortly before 11:20 p.m. Thursday in Lawndale, someone lying on a couch inside a home in the 2200 block of South Kolin Avenue was grazed in the left shoulder by a bullet that pierced a window, police said. The person declined medical attention.

About 5:45 p.m. in the Park Manor neighborhood, a 58-year-old man was shot in the back. He was shot in in the 7400 block of South Evans Avenue, but did not provide any information about what happened, police said. An ambulance took him to University of Chicago Medical Center, where police said he had been stabilized.

Police said an earlier shooting was accidental, and happened in the Bridgeport neighborhood in the 3600 block of South Union Avenue about 6 p.m. A 51-year-old man with a conceal and carry license, placed a weapon in a bag and threw it over his shoulder. The weapon discharged, striking him in the leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 4:50 p.m., the boy was sitting on a porch in the 7500 block of South Carpenter Street in the Gresham neighborhood, when a gunman on foot fired shots and fled. The boy was shot in the leg, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About the same time, a 21-year-old man was shot in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
