A section of Shales Parkway near Chicago Street in Elgin was closed for about three hours Thursday after the driver of a semi-truck lost control, struck several vehicles and glanced off a high-voltage power line, police said.

“ComEd and Exelon are evaluating the scene and trying to determine what exactly has been impacted before they attempt to tow the tractor-trailer out,” Elgin Public Information Officer Kristi Hilton said.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Elgin Fire Department were also at the scene to determine how to clean up some of the diesel fuel that was spilled, she said.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m. on the east side of Shales, resulting in police closing the road from Chicago Street to Maroon Drive. Roads were reopened just before 11 a.m., Hilton said.

No one was injured, and the trailer was empty, she said.
