2 hospitalized after man drives van into crowd in Back of the Yards

A minivan drove into a crowd on a sidewalk early Saturday in Back of the Yards, critically injuring a 26-year-old woman and causing less serious injuries to a 20-year-old man, according to Chicago police.

About 12:45 a.m. Saturday, there was a verbal argument involving the crowd in the 4500 block of South Morgan Street, then a man drove the blue van into the crowd, police said.

Police took the man into custody and said alcohol may have been involved.

Both people hit were taken to Stroger Hospital, where the woman was in critical condition and the man was stable, police said.
