A jogger was in intensive care Thursday morning after being struck by a car Wednesday in Ela Township, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a car at approximately 7:35 a.m. Wednesday and found that a 70-year-old Ela Township woman jogging on the east side of Eagle Drive, just north of Arrowhead Drive, had been struck by a car, officials said.

The woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said she was in serious condition in the intensive care unit Thursday.

According to sheriff’s reports, the driver of the BMW sedan that struck the jogger, a 61-year-old woman from Fox Lake, stopped after the collision and remained at the scene. Covelli said the investigation is ongoing, but at this point the driver has not been charged.

The driver had been traveling northbound on Eagle Drive when the collision occurred. Covelli said it has not yet been determined whether the woman who was hit was jogging on the shoulder of the Eagle Drive or on the road.

A determination on whether any charges will be filed in the incident will be made once the investigation is completed and the Sheriff’s Office reviews the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Covelli said. The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
