A Chicago man charged with firing shots at two acquaintances while driving in Antioch Township last year has pleaded guilty to a firearms charge under a negotiated agreement.
No one was struck by gunfire or injured during the incident.
Under the plea deal, approved Monday by Lake County Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti, Derrius Crenshaw pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to 21 months in prison, to be served at 50 percent.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon said that Crenshaw will be given credit toward the sentence for the roughly 220 days he has spent in Lake County jail, where he has been held on $250,000 bail since his arrest last September.
Dillon said in exchange for the plea, charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, which can carry a prison term of up to 15 years upon conviction, were dropped, as were separate but related charges of criminal damage to property.
Dillon said Crenshaw has no prior felony convictions and will serve a period of court supervision including several conditions following his prison term.

Crenshaw and two acquaintances got into a dispute in an Antioch-area grocery store parking lot the morning of Sept. 12, 2017, and as the argument intensified, a car belonging to a woman not involved in the incident was damaged, Dillon said.
At that point, Crenshaw fled in one vehicle and the two others fled the scene in a separate vehicle, Dillon said. As the two cars came into proximity of each other, Crenshaw is accused of firing shots at the other car, he said.
Authorities said evidence of shots having been fired was found at the scene, near North Addison Lane and Route 173 in Antioch Township.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports, Crenshaw was taken into custody by Chicago police on Sept. 24 of last year, less than two weeks after the incident.
