The Montgomery Village Board may take a second look at a proposed automotive shop they voted against last month.

Christian Brothers, which runs a number of automotive shops around the country, has proposed opening a new facility in the Orchard Crossings complex next door to the existing Merlin 200,000 Miles Shop.

Trustees voted down the plan, saying they didn’t want two similar facilities next door to each other.

However, developer John McVickers, with McVickers Development, asked trustees to reconsider at a recent Village Board meeting.

“They (Christian Brothers) are allowing me a short time to get this site approved,” he said.

He said the facility would bring in tax dollars and employ eight people. The developer said the site has been unused for a long time.

“This land has been vacant for decades,” he said. “We have tried hard for 30 years for quality development. I urge each of you to reconsider your vote on the matter.”

Trustee Steve Jungermann made a motion for reconsideration of the plan.

“I will give you the opportunity to bring this back. We aren’t denying this because there is too much competition in the area,” he said.

With the reconsideration motion from Jungermann, the item will be on the board’s March 26 agenda. At that time, the board will have to vote on whether they want to take another vote on the issue. If they do, a public hearing would have to be scheduled.
