George King, a senior member of the Nazareth Academy High School boys golf team, has been selected as the November baiduhai The Doings Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial, and chosen online by baiduhai voters.

King shot a 79 at the Class 2A Montini Regional on Oct. 3 to help the Roadrunners win their first regional title since 2011. He shot 79 again at the Lemont Sectional on Oct. 9 to qualify for the Class 2A state meet. At state, he tied for 48th place with a two-round score of 160.

“It’s a huge honor to win this award from COUNTRY Financial,” says King. “This is a great way to finish off my senior year. When I was a sophomore, the golf team had a good player named Matt Clark,” King explains. “He told me to rely on my teammates to get better and to always keep working hard. Today I think of that and know that’s part of the reason that things have really paid off to where I have gotten this today. Work hard and take pride in what you do everyday.”

His advice to other high school athletes, “My history teacher told me this, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, then go together,'” King says. “It makes you rely on your teammates and others to be successful. I got to where I am today because of my friends and family.”

COUNTRY Financial representative Mike Sheahan presented a $500 donation from COUNTRY Financial to Nazareth Academy in recognition of King’s achievements. King will also receive a plaque and sweatshirt from the baiduhai.

“I am honored to recognize students at Nazareth Academy,” says Sheahan. “COUNTRY Financial Athlete of the Month is a way to get involved in the community and give these kids a chance to remember something for the rest of their life. We are very proud of George.”
