Lockport students earn state honors Tech Day

Two teams from Lockport Township High School placed in the top three in state completion at the 17th annual TSA Technology Day on Oct. 13 at Illinois State University. Kayley Uy and Erik Figanek finished in second place in Transportation Technology and Anise Puckett and Emma Oster finished in third place in Structural Technology. The students are currently enrolled in Engineering Design and Introduction to Engineering Design courses competed under the guidance of teacher Jeff Brown. This year, 18 schools and 430 students from Illinois competed in Technology Day.

South Suburban Family Shelter recruiting marathoners

The Run Domestic Violence Out of Town team, a coalition of 10 domestic violence programs, is recruiting people interested in running the 2018 Chicago Marathon as members of its partnership. Runners raise support, money and awareness for domestic violence survivors. Registration is now open and the team will pay the registration fee for the first 20 runners who join through Nov. 30. Habitat For Humanity ReStore offers free app

Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 180 W. Joe Orr Road, Chicago Heights, which sells hardware and home improvement items to benefit Habitat for Humanity projects, now has a new app for phones available via the Apple and Google Play stores. The app informs people of new inventory at the store and makes it easier to request a pickup of items to donate as well as making it easier to volunteer. Medicare and ACA questions answered in Evergreen Park

Open enrollment for Medicare is through Dec. 7. Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act is Nov. 1 to Dec. 15. Joyce Bonner, a not-for-profit insurance navigator will answer Medicare and ACA questions from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 S.
