The cost to restore Grant Park after Lollapalooza this summer reached nearly $515,000, which is about $60,000 more than last year’s repair tab. Some of this work is expected to take place after Sunday’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

The bill includes sod and soil work, irrigation repairs, shrub replacement and other fixes, according to documents obtained by the Tribune through a Freedom of Information Act request. The first day of this year’s festival, held Aug. 3-6, was cut short because of rain, which impacted the grounds.

A Chicago Park District representative said the bulk of the repair work is done, but sod is expected to be laid at Upper Hutchinson Field after the marathon, which starts and ends in Grant Park. Repairs to Arvey Field are slated for the spring.

Festival organizer C3 Presents is responsible for paying for the fixes. C3 was charged an additional $47,000 for pre-event work that included laying mulch and installing pavers. C3 representatives did not immediately return a Tribune request for comment.

It cost $453,000 to restore Grant Park after Lollapalooza last year, when the festival was permanently expanded from three days to four days. The tally was $236,000 in 2015.

The music festival is scheduled to return to Grant Park Aug. 2-5. A lineup has not yet been announced, but VIP and platinum tickets are on sale.
