Wilmette resident Eleanor Lipinski was on duty at the Centennial Park Recreation Complex on Sept. 26, helping to register voters on National Voter Registration Day with other members of the League of Women Voters when she stopped to talk to Pioneer Press.
Q: Do you remember when you first registered to vote, or the first time you voted?
A: I can’t remember when I registered, but I remember the first presidential election I voted in. That was in 1992, the first election for (Bill) Clinton.
Q: Why did you join the League of Women Voters of Wilmette?
A: I wanted to start getting involved in issues that I thought were important to me, and to my community. I’ve been a member for about four years.
Q: Do you have a cause or charity that you’d like people to be aware of?
A: I’d like people to be aware of the League of Women Voters of Wilmette. You can find out about us at our website. (www.lwvwilmette.org/

) Men can join, too.Q: In a completely different vein, do you have a pet?
A: I do; I have a dog. He’s a puggle, a cross between a pug and a beagle. His name is Frisco, and he’s adorable. He’s usually hungry, too.
Q: What book, movie, or television show could you recommend?
A: I’m watching the Ken Burns special on Vietnam. I absolutely love it. I’m learning so much that I didn’t know. He’s really getting the history from all perspectives, not just the American perspective.
Q: Do you have a favorite fall activity?
A: I like to bike in the fall. You can ride around and watch the leaves as they change, and it’s really a pleasant thing to do.
Q: What household chore would you pay someone else to do?
A: Cooking dinner. I like home-cooked meals, but I hate trying to figure out what to cook.
Q: Finally, do you have a favorite comfort food?
A: Cake, chocolate cake. No, wait; pie, fruit pie. Actually, I’ve got a lot of comfort foods. I went through almost a half loaf of pumpkin bread today!
