Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In February, North Side favorite The Growling Rabbit moved from its Rogers Park digs to a new space in Edgewater, complete with a barista-staffed coffee bar. But one of the most interesting drinks on the menu doesn’t have coffee at all.

The Summerita ($4.75) — available through the end of September, perfect for those who like to keep summer vibes going after Labor Day — arrives in a tall glass with three distinct layers: bright-red hibiscus syrup covering the bottom, a pour of sparkling water in the middle and a splash of orange juice on top.

Stir everything together and the drink becomes a rosy orange-pink. But it isn’t all sweet — two jalapeno slices add a (tame) jolt of spice. Order this one before it’s off the menu to make way for fall drinks.
