Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

My love affair with frozen yogurt is so bad that I sometimes prefer cozying up with Ben & Jerry over my actual significant other.

So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered Yogolandia, a Little Village fro-yo shop with flavors I’ve never seen at the standard fro-yo chains.

Owner Eve Rodriguez, who also runs the candy store Dulcelandia (the two stores are attached), puts a Mexican spin on the creamy dessert, making and selling flavors including horchata, flan and pepino (cucumber).

“I always saw the same limited flavors in fro-yo stores, so I wanted to bring in flavors that I knew growing up,” Rodriguez said.

Yogolandia’s yogurt is self-serve, priced at 45 cents an ounce; I suggest splitting your cup with half horchata (rice milk with cinnamon) and half flan (baked caramel custard). The flavors, both rich, complement each other well. Better yet if you indulge at the toppings station, home to a wide range of Mexican and American candy and other goodies. I went for chile powder, churros and pieces of Gansito, the packaged snack cake stuffed with cream and strawberry jelly, to add a sweet and spicy kick.
