The Colorado Rapids have fired manager Pablo Mastroeni from his post, the club annouced on Tuesday.
The club also confirmed assistant coach Steve Cooke as the interim manager for the remainder of the season.
“Unfortunately, we have fallen short of our expectations, and this decision was taken in the best interest of the players and the organization as a whole,” said Sporting Director and Interim General Manager Pádraig Smith.
Mastroeni had been at the helm in Colorado since 2014, posting a record of 39 wins, 54 draws, and 35 losses. He led the Rapids to the Western Conference finals last season before being eliminated by eventual champions Seattle Sounders.
