Samanta Katlabi is a volunteer at the River Grove Public Library. She said she likes the creative aspect of working at a library.

Q: Where did you grow up and go to school?

A: I grew up in River Grove. I went to East Leyden High School and then Triton College. Now I go North Park University.

Q: What are you studying at North Park?

A: I’m studying elementary education.

Q: What activities are you involved in at North Park?

A: I’m in orchestra, and I’m taking private lessons. I’m also really involved in my church, Belmont Assembly of God.

Q: What are your responsibilities at River Grove library?

A: I help Mrs. [Dayna] Tucker with her programs. I help her prepare crafts. I help her set up and clean up. We bounce ideas off of each other.

Q: Why did you want to volunteer at River Grove library?

A: I started volunteering at the library in high school, and I really liked it. I liked being around kids, which made me realize I wanted to be a teacher. I like being around Mrs. Tucker.

Q: What kinds of programs are available at the library for the rest of summer?

A: We have a program for kids that are ages 5 to 9. We also have a story time for really little kids. It is for kids that are infants to age 2.

Q: What do you like about working at River Grove library?

A: I really like working with the kids. It gives me an opportunity to help them grow. I like learning from Mrs. Tucker. She has a lot of great ideas and is very creative. I like being around this atmosphere.

Q: What are your plans after you graduate college?

A: I would like to be an ELL (English language learners) teacher. I would also possibly like to be a music teacher, too.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: I like to spend time with my family, especially my sisters. I like to spend time with my friends.

Q: Since you work at a library, what’s your favorite book and author?

A: My favorite book is “Flipped.” My favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. I like the cheesy romance books!
