Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Wilmette resident Mia Krone was waiting for a friend to pick her up at the Wilmette Metra station Wednesday, but she stopped and talked with the Pioneer Press about summer, where to take Chicago newcomers and more.

Q: It’s August already. When do you consider summer over?

A: The first day of classes. For me, that’s Aug. 22. I’m going to High Point University in North Carolina, where I’m going for pre-med, specializing in biochemistry.

Q: What national treasure would you like to visit; Washington, D.C., the Grand Canyon or the Smoky Mountains?

A: I’ve been to all three of those. I’d really like to visit the Statue of Liberty, and go right to the top.

Q: Where in Chicago would you take a friend who was new to the area?

A: The Sears Tower. And I call it the Sears Tower, not the Willis Tower. I’ve been there twice. I love looking down at the great view of Chicago you can get there. After going there, I think I’d take them to a Lou Malnati’s Pizza that’s nearby.

Q: Since you mentioned pizza, we have to ask: flat pizza or deep dish?

A: Deep dish, no doubt about it. From Lou Malnati’s, with the butter crust. I don’t need anything but cheese on it; anything else on it is too much.

Q: Another summer question; can you recommend a good summer book or movie?

A: “Wonder Woman,” definitely. My friends and I just loved that movie. It was absolutely wonderful.

Q: What’s the best non-political news you’ve heard lately?

A: Steve Bartman getting a World Series ring. That was heartwarming and very classy of the Ricketts.

Q: Finally, do you have a cause or charity that you’d like people to be aware of?

A: My family is very heavily involved in a school in Rwanda, known as Sonrise School, which was started after the genocide in that country. It was originally an orphanage, but it’s now a school. One way to help is through the Mustard Seed project: www.mustardseedproject.org.
