Traffic in the area was snarled for hours in all directions Monday afternoon as the main artery to McHenry closed at Route 120 and Volo Village Road in Lakemoor.
The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. Monday when an SUV attempting to turn left onto Route 120 from Volo Village Road was struck by a pickup truck driving westbound on Route 120, Lakemoor Police Officer Kevin Lyons said.
The SUV was struck on the driver’s side, and its female driver was killed, Lyons said.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital, Lyons said. He did not have information on the man’s condition or the hospital to which he was taken.
No one else was involved in the crash, he said.
Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said the woman had to be extricated from the vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation, Lyons said..
