After visiting Scoville Park June 4 for the 44th A Day in Our Village festival, Suzanne Seeger, 67, of Oak Park stopped to answer a few questions for the Oak Leaves.

Q: How long have you lived in Oak Park?

A: I’ve lived here almost 20 years.

Q: Why do you think A Day in Our Village has such enduring appeal?

A: People are amongst each other, mingling, viewing other people, viewing things, the music. It’s just relaxing. It’s a nice day.

Q: Favorite warm weather activity?

A: I like to walk in summer.

Q: Is there a cause that’s important to you?

A: I’m just really sensitive to the homeless population. It’s an issue that keeps throwing itself at me. I want to pay attention to that, so that’s at the forefront in my mind.

Q: Local restaurant you love?

A: I’m pretty much my own cook. I like salmon, baked, with honey and garlic on it, with spices. It’s really good, with rice and vegetables.

Q: Book you’re currently reading?

A: Right now, I’m reading a book of poetry that’s having to do with African-American heritage. I found it at the library. It’s deep-seated, real-feeling poetry. It helps me relate to my son, who is biracial.

Q: Travel destination that’s on your to-do list?

A: I’d love to go to New Mexico. I love the artistry. It’s really interesting.

Q: Words you live by?

A: Be kind to yourself. And to thine own self be true.
