Winnetka village council members bid goodbye to one colleague, said hello to a new one, and watched former Trustee Chris Rintz get sworn in as the village’s new president on May 2.
Rintz and council members, including newly elected trustee Robert Dearborn, were sworn in by Village Manager Robert Bahan before taking their seats on the council dais.
“I’d like to call the meeting of the new village council to order,” Rintz said upon taking the gavel. “And just like that, it’s done.”
At that point, the new council, all of whom were elected unopposed in last month’s municipal election, said goodbye to and passed resolutions honoring Gene Greable, who served as president from 2013 and 2017, and William Krucks, who was first appointed in 2014 to fill an uncompleted trustee term and was elected to a full term in 2015.
Krucks thanked colleagues for their ability to reach consensus on village issues.
“We didn’t always share the same views, but on major questions we put our differences aside and … kept the needs of the village residents foremost when making decisions,” he said. “Acrimony is not part of these chambers, nor should it be.”
Trustee Andrew Cripe said of Krucks, “One of the things that I think is pretty clear with Bill – he’s the wisest and most eloquent of the council.”
Trustee Penny Lanphier promised Krucks, who spoke often during his term about the need for stormwater control, “We’ll get rid of that floodwater for you.”
