A 22-year-old Aurora man has been charged in connection with shots fired Tuesday in Oswego.

Devon C. Fowler, 22, of the 2000 block of Lilac Lane, Aurora, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a class 3 felony; and unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, a class 2 felony, according to Kendall County court records.

At 12:54 p.m. Tuesday, Oswego police saw a man, later identified as Fowler, standing on Weisbrook Drive west of Fifth Street, outside the passenger side of a gold sedan, shooting toward a silver vehicle that was driving westbound on Weisbrook, according to a news release from the Oswego Police Department.

Fowler then got into the sedan, police said in the news release. Police tried to stop the sedan and Fowler got out and ran away, allegedly with a firearm in his possession, police said.

Officers chased Fowler on foot and quickly found him and took him into custody, police said. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, police said the gold sedan was seen leaving the area eastbound on Weisbrook.

With approval from the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, Fowler was charged with the felonies and transported to the county jail. In a bond hearing Wednesday, a judge set his bail at $200,000.

He is currently listed in custody at the jail, with a court appearance scheduled May 2.

Oswego police said in the news release that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident, which they are continuing to investigate.

Fowler was sentenced to 43 months in prison after pleading guilty in 2013 to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 2 felony, in a 2012 Kane County case.

He also has an open felony case in Kane County, where he faces drug and resisting a peace officer charges from 2016.

Police ask anyone with information about the recent case to call the department at 630-551-7300 or Kendall County Crime Stoppers at 630-553-5999.
